A Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, Karen can help you learn how to navigate life’s challenges in a healthy and balanced way. She appreciates that for many people it is uncomfortable talking about how they are experiencing life because they have learned to suppress their emotions in a culture that has taught that they should not be too emotional. Karen helps her clients understand that emotions are intended to simply guide us toward that which is pleasant and away from that which is unpleasant or dangerous.
Karen is an experienced emotional and trauma focused therapist who has a gentle and compassionate approach to understanding every client’s individual needs. One of Karen’s strengths is teaching clients how their nervous systems functions. By bringing awareness to what is going on inside, her clients learn how to remove judgement and shame as well as how to regulate their emotions and connect with others in a satisfying and supportive way. She helps them to appreciate how the effects of past experiences may trigger them, possibly resulting in emotional overwhelm or shut down.
Karen holds a Diploma in Spiritual Psychotherapy from Transformational Arts College and a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University. She continues to stay current in her field and has completed formal training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Internal Family Systems, Compassionate Inquiry, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Structural Dissociation, and Mindfulness. Karen integrates these different therapeutic modalities into her client focused therapeutic approach to ensure that each client has the tools, techniques and resources that will enable them to navigate their life challenges moving forward.
